FULBRIGHT/2025-26 U.S. Student Program: English Teaching Assistant Program - Athens College (up to 13 awards)

13 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Awards Award Profile Up to 13 grants are available to recent graduates to serve as Fulbright Fellows at Athens College-Hellenic American Educational Foundation (HAEF) and act as young ambassadors, strengthening the ties between the Foundation and the United States, and providing a cross-cultural educational experience. The role of grantees includes infusing their culture, enthusiasm, ideas, language and knowledge into the school's community. Grant Length September Start Grants will begin on September 2, 2025 and conclude on July 15, 2026. Grant Length: 10.5 months Orientation Pre-Departure and In-Country Orientation Athens College-HAEF and the Fulbright Foundation in Greece will offer Pre-Departure orientations in June 2025. Grantees are expected in Greece before the beginning of the academic year in late August. Grantees are required to participate in a two-day orientation program organized by the Fulbright Foundation in Greece in September 2025 and a seminar in Spring 2026. Candidate Profile Athens College encourages enthusiastic, outgoing individuals with a genuine passion for education and a wide spectrum of personal strengths and interests to apply. The Fellowship is open to recent U.S. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree holders with a record of academic excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate level (due to the entry-level nature of the post, the preferred age limit at the time of application is 26.) Majors in Education and English literature and language (including TESOL/TEFL) are preferred, but are not required. Applicants should be open-minded and adaptable to the experience and challenges of living abroad. They should be highly motivated, flexible, willing to be involved in a number of different projects at the same time, and possess a relatively active lifestyle. Past experience should reflect a desire to work with children and teenagers. Some educational experience and/or experience in college counselling and admissions will be favored. This is a highly demanding award. Candidates with relevant work experience are preferred. Placements may require fellows to rotate among grade levels. Athens College may interview finalists for the Fulbright Fellowship program via online platform or by telephone. ETAs cannot be accompanied by dependents. As part of the Athens College Fellowship Program, grantees can choose to attend a Modern Greek language course, which is offered free of charge. Some study of Modern Greek prior to arrival is encouraged in order to promote deeper engagement with the host community. For this reason, Athens College-HAEF will offer online Modern Greek language lessons before the grantees’ arrival. Housing Arrangements Shared furnished housing is provided free of charge by the host institution. This provision also comes with basic kitchen amenities and utensils, cooking and washing facilities, heating and A/C, Wi-Fi and includes basic utilities (landline, water, electricity and building maintenance). Placement Location Capital City Placement Type Elementary School Middle School Secondary School Grantees will be placed at the elementary, middle, or high school level and will be involved in activities through-out the school day (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), with the occasional Saturday for specific events. Grantees will participate actively in supervised English classes and/or be assigned to the school's University Applications and Counseling Office and/or the Library, and have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of students. All grantees are also involved as coaches and mentors in the Forensics Club – the School’s largest English language theater and debate club – where they are able to connect with the students in a fun, creative, and supportive setting. At the end of the school year, grantees serve as camp counselors at Athens College’s English language Summer Camp in June-July. Outside school hours, the Fellowship affords opportunities to explore Greece. Past Fellows have complemented school responsibilities with travel and cultural exploration. Due to the intensive nature of this particular ETA program, however, supplementary projects and/or personal research will not be feasible outside of Athens College related activities. 1 Bulgaria-Greece Fulbright Joint Research Award Award Profile This joint award is provided by the Bulgarian and Greek Fulbright Commissions and allows students to engage in comparative trans-regional research and/or study. Up to one award per academic year is open to candidates at all degree levels. Candidate Profile Fulbright Greece will award up to five grants to a) recent college/university graduates, b) students pursuing a Master’s degree and c) Ph.D. candidates. Applications will be considered from well-qualified students in all fields and at all degree levels that require minimal supervision. Number of Awards One Activity Type Professional Project, Research, Teaching, Teaching/Research Award Activity This is an opportunity for creative individuals to gain inspiration from both the Arctic and the Mediterranean, creating and showcasing their art in both Greece and Iceland. The grant is open to all fields of art and design. Applications are welcome from visual artists, writers, poets, dancers, filmmakers, photographers, designers, musicians and other artists. Grantees will be expected to show their work or publish, depending on the field. Project proposals will be judged on recognized professional standing, portfolios (if applicable) and professional accomplishments. The grantee is encouraged to teach and/or mentor students in some capacity during the grant period. Award Length and Period The grant is for a total of six months. It is offered jointly by Iceland and Greece, with 3 months to be spent in each country. The grant can start either in Greece or Iceland. Grants should begin no earlier than September 1, 2025. Grants must be completed by end of June 2026. The grantee may go directly from one country to the other or return to the U.S. for a brief period in between visits to the two countries, as long as the grant is completed within the grant period. Number of Awards One Category Research, Teaching or Teaching/Research Award Activity Teaching, preferably at graduate level; conducting research and/or collaborating with colleagues at Spanish and Greek academic and research institutions; or a combination of both. Activities may include presenting lectures, seminars and workshops as arranged by host institutions or the Fulbright Commissions. Spain and Greece share historical and cultural links dating back to ancient times. These include the Sephardic Jewish community of Greece (with its Ladino language and musical traditions), as well as the renowned Renaissance painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco. Comparative research projects on Greece and Spain may address current or historical issues, and/or specific fields of study. History, culture or current social, economic and political issues are just some of the areas that might be conducive to a comparative Fulbright approach. In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is a public diplomacy initiative designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars will be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities. Program Overview The Fulbright Scholar Program is an important component of the Fulbright Foundation's mission to bring outstanding U.S. scholars from a wide variety of disciplines to Greek institutions of higher learning and state or private organizations in order to promote cultural and educational ties between the two countries through scholarly interaction and collaboration. Individuals who seek affiliations with Greek State Universities and/or research organizations will typically need to hold a Ph.D. or a terminal degree and have three to 10 years or more of appropriate professional experience. Individual research or art projects do not carry this requirement. However, substantial experience in the field of expertise is required. Grants are intended for either three months during the fall term (October – December) or three to four months during the spring term (February – June). Grant Length 9 Months Grant Period Fall Start The official start date for U.S. Fulbright Student Research Grants in Greece is September 15. All grants need to conclude by end of June. Orientation In-Country Orientation Grantees are required to participate in a two-day orientation program organized by the Fulbright Foundation in Greece in late September 2025 and a seminar in Spring 2026. Candidate Profile This award supports enrollment at Master’s programs offered in English by Greek State Universities. The grant will provide up to 1500 USD in tuition and fees for studies through a Graduate Program in Greece for the first year only (2 semesters). Other expenses for the completion of the program must be borne on the applicant. The choice of program and discipline lies with the applicant. All fields are eligible.
